Every so often an It bag emerges—a style that’s been deemed essential to your closet and unquestionably so for entrance-making, be it during the day at Michael’s Genuine or at LIV once the sun sets. Lately, we’re noticing that the clutch is increasingly taking on an It-bag aura: While something simple and diminutive—perhaps in satin with a splash of crystals—used to do the job nicely, these days this evening purse is making more of a designer statement, with fashion houses imbuing their designs with signature details. Christian Louboutin, who’s made a big push with his bags in recent seasons, playfully mixes cork with patent leather and a medallion that leaves no doubts as to the bag’s origin, while Roger Vivier’s Prismick pattern likewise finds its way into an artful degradé style. Indeed, color seems to be the primary focus in clutches of the moment. Jimmy Choo never disappoints with its brilliantly toned shoes, and we love the gorgeous orchid tone of the label’s latest Ciggy clutch. And from Valentino, would anything but the house’s iconic red do? Finally, perhaps the greatest change to the clutches of late: Designers have caught on to the fact that we want something stylish but that can also hold a phone (or two). That’s something worth celebrating.
