Retro Drive-In Theater Coming to Wynwood

Coming to Wynwood, Blue Starlite puts a hipster spin on the traditional drive-in.
Attention, cinephiles: Blue Starlite, “the first and only mini urban drive-in theater,” is coming to Wynwood by way of the Weird City (aka Austin, Texas), and will offer previews starting September 18 before officially unveiling its 22-by-11-foot silver screen in October.
With the arrival of Blue Starlite, native Texan Josh Frank puts his own quirky spin on the bygone '50s fad that would ultimately become its own slice of Americana. Dubbed “the drive-in of the future,” the open-air theater will provide moviegoing Miamians with an urban-meets-retro-chic experience, enhanced by hi-def digital projection and authentic antique speakers nabbed on eBay.
With the original location’s lineup already a hit among in-the-know Austinites, the boutique Wynwood spot will continue to screen Gen X/Y pop culture faves (a la Indiana Jones and The Goonies), indie films, and cult classics—preceded, naturally, by throwback coming attractions.
Located two doors down from O Cinema at 90 NW 29th St., Blue Starlite accommodates an intimate 20 cars per show and 10 reserved tables with seating areas. Locals can also bike in or walk in to enjoy an alfresco show. Just don’t forget to try the s’mores, sold out of a vintage trailer serving as a concession stand and toasted on your own mini-fire. Tickets will cost between $8 and $55.
