In October, Miami’s weather cools off while the activity heats up, signaling the start of our high season. Snowbirds begin their migration south to join us at our hottest restaurants, events, and galas. Ocean Drive has a full calendar of events that I’m looking forward to, including our annual men’s event.
For the October cover, our star, Lenny Kravitz, exudes serious cool, making him the prime choice for this year’s annual Men’s Issue. Kravitz, much like Miami in this moment, continues to reinvent his creative genius from rock star to actor to interior designer. His latest movie release, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is set to hit theaters next month, and his 10th album will come out in 2014. His firm, Kravitz Design, has made a big splash in Miami, with projects ranging from Paramount Bay to the penthouse at the SLS Hotel South Beach, and he will soon expand out into the Caribbean with his newest project in the Bahamas, Baha Mar.
Following up on Kravitz’s chill style, our men’s fashion feature displays Miami’s own most stylish—a great group of local men’s boutique owners who dressed up in this season’s dapper designs for a night out at the Dream South Beach hotel, shot by famed photographer Marc Baptiste.
At the end of the month, Miami Heat fans will return to AmericanAirlines Arena. We shared a little preseason downtime with Heat forward Shane Battier in our “Toast” section before the madness begins. That season opener is against the Chicago Bulls—a team the Heat defeated in last year’s run for the championship. Three-peat, anyone?
See you around town….
