Once the favored fishing retreat of President Harry S. Truman, and less than three hours from Miami, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa now thrives as a luxurious, off-the-beaten-path oasis. You won’t find televisions or alarm clocks in the 30 private thatched-roof bungalow suites (two per bungalow) on the 5.5-acre island, which is reached only by seaplane or boat. But you will find ultra-romantic high canopy beds swathed in mosquito netting, separate living rooms, whirlpool tubs, and outdoor bamboo showers. (You also won’t see children, as the resort doesn’t allow tykes under the age of 16.) Guests can choose to snorkel, fish, sail on a catamaran, indulge in beachside massages courtesy of SpaTerre, or simply lie around the lagoon-like pool or on the sands, watching either the migratory Key deer or Spencer, the resident blue heron.
