Sommelier Eric Larkee, wine director for The Genuine Hospitality Group (Michael’s Genuine, The Cypress Room, and Harry’s Pizzeria), shares his favorite Miami restaurants with stellar wine lists via our friends at Find. Eat. Drink.
“Mandolin always has a delicious rosé by the glass,” says Larkee about this Mediterranean restaurant that serves locally caught fresh fish. “They have white wines from heirloom Greek grapes—and I'm not trying to talk you into retsina wine—and well-priced Chablis, which is perfect with the octopus and branzino.” 4312 N.E. Second Ave., Miami, 305-576-6066
This resto serves up New American-style crudos, crustaceans, and cocktails. Their wine program includes 420 bottles from old and new world regions and a rotating spotlight of unique wines by the glass. Larkee says, “Sommelier Danny Toral curates this list. It’s like a great jazz combo that knows all the standards, but can slip in some edgy contemporary numbers if the right crowd is in attendance.” 600 Brickell Ave., Miami, 305-579-1888
It’s the more than 1,000-bottle wine list that gets Larkee excited at chef Michael Mina's contemporary American steakhouse. He says, “Bourbon Steak is great when I need to scratch a Burgundy itch. It's hard to match the breadth and depth of the program that the Mina guys maintain. And yes, I'd rather drink Burgundy with steak than California Cab.” 19999 W. Country Club Dr., Aventura, 786-279-6600
Bocce Bar is an Italian restaurant from the folks behind SUSHISAMBA that offers rustic cuisine, craft cocktails, house-made liqueurs, and—to work it all off—an official bocce court. “This is not just a bar,” says Larkee. “The [wine] list is a survey of the Italian landscape with plenty of wines with personality under $70. They get bonus points for serving the red wines by the glass at a perfect temperature.” 3252 N.E. First Ave., Miami, 786-245-6211
“Probably the best wine bar list in Miami,” raves Larkee. In addition to selling bottles, they serve wines by the glass as either a 3-ounce tasting pour or a full 6 ounces. They also have a full menu ranging from ribs to sweetbreads to duck confit. “The wine list is a wide-ranging survey of the various expressions of Chardonnay, but sommelier Heath Porter has an obsession with more obscure grapes like Trousseau Gris as well.” 70 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, 305-448-2400
