The style profile of a major golf event such as this week's Cadillac Championship doesn't have to be all polo shirts and checkered shorts—especially when Carolina Herrera is involved. The Venezuelan designer has partnered with Ivanka Trump to host a runway show of her spring 2014 collection at the star-studded tournament this Friday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. Why bring fashion to the fairway? "After seeing so much green, the women will be excited to see other colors and prints," notes Herrera. For music fans, the Miami Heat's DJ Irie will also play a role in the runway show happening at the Trump National Doral.
Here, we chat up Herrera—fresh from L.A. and a flurry of Oscar parties—about what's in store for the event, and what she thinks of host Ivanka's personal style.
Tell us about your relationship with Ivanka Trump.
CAROLINA HERRERA: I have known Ivanka for many years, and she has always been beautiful, intelligent, independent, and dedicated to her personal and work life.
How did the idea for the fashion show come about?
CH: Ivanka came to me with the idea to incorporate fashion with the world of golf. After three days of golf, the spring 2014 collection will be center stage on the fairway of the magnificent [Trump National] Doral Resort.
Can you sum up your look for spring, and why it works for the Miami woman?
CH: The spring 2014 collection is all about art in movement. There are many reasons this collection is perfect for Miami. The vibrant colors and effortless ease in the collection are similar to that which you will find in the city. Miami is a warm, cheerful place with a great day and night ambiance. The women in Miami are a reflection of this beautiful city.
Herrera's spring looks are perfect for breezy spring nights in Miami.
How do you and Ivanka work together as a team?
CH: Ivanka was wonderful to work with. With each project she takes on, she has a very clear vision of what she wants the end result to be. She was enthusiastic about the fashion show and believed it would be great to introduce this world to Carolina Herrera.
What's your impression of her personal style?
CH: I have always thought that Ivanka has an innate fashion sense, particularly how she chooses to dress for her everyday life. She is the woman that exudes confidence in the office, but also the woman that everyone turns to see when she walks into a party. She never strays from her personality and who she is.
The Trump National Doral Miami is located at 4400 NW 87th Ave. in Doral. Cadillac Championship tournament tickets include access to the fashion show.
