Photographs from the opening of ETC
The new boutique ETC opened last week just off Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road. Argentinean-born art collector and designer Monica Kalpakian curates the collection, which includes fur throws, tables, pitchers, candlesticks and cutlery by Airedelsur by Marcelo Lucini, as well as a selection of jewelry by up-and-coming European and Argentinean artisans. (Look for vintage watches and jewelry from the 20s, 50s and 60s, and silver bracelets designed by Kalpakian herself.) Here she answers a few questions on her personal style.
ETC has pieces from all over the world. What is your favorite country for shopping?
France, most specifically in Paris.
What is your favorite host/hostess gift to give?
I like to give something that is elegant, simple and easy to like. I prefer to give a gift that makes a statement but does not impose my taste on someone else.
Miami’s natural beauty plays a big role in how we decorate. What’s your favorite flower to use?
Dark calas, peonies and dark-red roses.
What’s your preferred style of jewelry?
I wear jewelry from the 20s—art deco.
You’ve worked with nonprofits in the past. Tell us about your latest charity project.
I recently hosted an event with Brian Kabot for the Achievement and Rehabilitation Centers, to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
