As the driving force and head curator behind RAW:natural born artists, Rosana Emanuelli scours Miami for undiscovered artistic talent. Her monthly emerging artists showcase, RAW, which highlights everything from film to fashion to photography, will celebrate its fourth annual RAWards tonight. As she readies to honor the artists she’s discovered and come to know, we asked Emanuelli to forecast the biggest cultural events for the remainder of 2012. Although it goes without saying that Art Basel Miami Beach (December 6-9) is the headliner, here are four other happenings for your radar.
Krisp, Kodiak Fur, Afrobeta, and Andrew Ward Friday, November 16, 10 p.m.
This music and art mash-up at The Vagabond will feature performances by Krisp, Kodiak Fur, Afrobeta (performing a DJ set), and Andrew Ward, as well as live art by Valentina Simon. Says Emanuelli, “I'm a great fan of all these bands and they are playing together on the same night.” 30 Northeast 14th St., Downtown Miami
Imaginarium Life Monday, Dec. 3 (tentatively)
Imaginarium Life is an experimental, multi-dimensional performance art piece that incorporates theatre, dance, and film to tell the story of a couple who abandon reality and retreat to their imagination. Creator Alexey Taran is raising funds for the December 3rd premiere on usaprojects.org. He needs to raise $7,000 in order for the show to go on. Learn more here.
Art Basel Wynwood Tours Wednesday to Saturday, December 5-8
These two-hour guided walking tours lead guests through the Wynwood Arts District's colorful galleries and street murals. "It is such an experience and amazing talent is often discovered; this is what RAW is all about," says Emanuelli.
Light Assembly with Verge Art Miami Beach Thursday to Sunday, December 6-9
For this inaugural video art projection festival during Art Basel, Miami’s towering skyscrapers and landmark buildings will double as cinematic screens. Emanuelli notes Light Assembly as one of the most anticipated events of the season.
