Trip Planner: Mexico City

Plaza de la Constitución, in the heart of the historic district
|The Condesa DF hotel|
Wake up in the Top Suite of the über-chic French Neoclassical Condesa DF hotel, and enjoy the city’s cool morning breeze from your private terrace overlooking Parque España and the historical Castillo de Chapultepec. Head downstairs to the patio for a gourmet brunch, or opt for huevos rancheros accompanied by a fresh carrot juice or melon-mint smoothie.
Stroll through Parque México en route to Colonia Roma, the city’s emerging neighborhood of shops and art centers. There, check out OMR Gallery for a snapshot of Mexico’s modern art scene, then pop into Emmanuel Picault’s Chic by Accident boutique, a 1920s mansion housing a well-curated mix of eclectic furniture and décor. Before leaving, hit Colima Street for one-of-akind finds in designer and vintage shops such as Goodbye Folk.
Make a reservation far enough in advance to lunch at Contramar in Roma Norte, the go-to daytime-only spot for the city’s most stylish crowd. Soak in the bright, airy ambience while savoring a fresh tuna tostada and cold michelada (a salt-rimmed cocktail of beer, lime, tomato juice and spices).
Make your way to the upscale Colonia Polanco district for a visit to Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s newest project, Museo Soumaya. Designed by architect Fernando Romero, it’s an immense structure consisting of 16,000 reflective aluminum plates and housing an impressive six-floor art collection including works by Diego Rivera, van Gogh and Matisse.

Return to Roma Norte for dinner at Rosetta, arguably Mexico City’s best restaurant. Order the mouthwatering burrata mozzarella appetizer. For something sweet after dinner, take a stroll to Licorería Limantour and indulge in one of its unique signature cocktails, such as the La Morena, made with rum, guava, clove and cardamom.
If you can get your name on the list, do not miss out on M.N. Roy, the city’s most of-the-now antro (aka nightclub). If you’re still on your feet, finish the night at Leonor, the It Crowd’s after-hours lounge, where international DJs often make wee-hour cameos.
