CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Ken Gorin let me test drive the new McLaren at the grand opening of their new showroom at The Collection; with JP Oliver (LEFT) at the new Philippe Miami for Ocean Drive’s holiday party; with associate publisher Susan Abrams at Kimpton’s Surfcomber Hotel Miami-South Beach kickoff party; with national account director Lauren Shapiro, Steve Zubkoff (LEFT), and Steve Gormley, who stopped by our office in a Porteon electric car
If you know me, you know I love my food. I’m in my glory every February when our contributor Lee Brian Schrager brings his Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival to town. Ocean Drive is grateful to be a continuing partner for this highly anticipated (and delicious) event. I know I’m likely preaching to the converted here, but be sure to pencil in a few of these festivities taking place from February 23 to 26.
The start of the distinguished South Florida polo season is upon us. Believe me, a field-side table at the International Polo Club Palm Beach is the perfect spot for Sunday brunch. The hats, the pomp, the divot-stomp at halftime—they all make a drive north to Wellington well worth it.
Aside from all of the events, there’s a bevy of interesting openings and serious property revampings to enjoy. The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort opened its doors last month, where you can dine at celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s J&G Grill. The Delano swapped out the iconic Blue Door for modern Italian fare at its new signature restaurant, Bianca. And the Shelborne South Beach and Surfcomber Hotel Miami-South Beach have gone through multimillion-dollar makeovers. If that wasn’t enough, we’re all excited to see the SLS Hotel at South Beach get in the game. All these players just make it more fun for us.
Last but certainly not least, I want to give a warm welcome back to the Miami Heat. We are not only honored to have Chris Bosh playing for our team, but also to have him on board as an editor-at-large. Make sure to check out this month’s “Parting Shot” for his take on the unique relationship between a celebrity and his fans.
Stay tuned for details on our February cover party with Gabrielle Union, and all of the other events we have up our sleeves. As always, see you around town!
