Congratulate us: We’re finally “legal.” And as Ocean Drive celebrates its 18-year anniversary, the city is more electric than ever. This is our annual Anniversary/Nightlife Issue, highlighting the Miami hot spots where you’re most likely to feel the kind of energy we’re famous for. Read Bill Kearney’s “Nightlife Roundup 2011” for the ultimate lowdown on where to be when, and even what to say when you get there. In “Were You Invited?” we spotlight guest lists from six recent parties; the result is a fun snapshot of Miami’s varied social circles. Whether your bag is art, music, design, fashion—or just drinking and dancing—there’s definitely a scene here for you.
Acclaimed New York-based photographer Bronques traveled to Miami to shoot late-night portrait collection “About Last Night’s Party...,” which we’re absolutely crazy about. His work is completely in line with the times. Over-airbrushing is so last decade: These days it’s more interesting to see subjects raw and real. Speaking of authentic, our beautiful cover star Sofia Vergara—one of our all-time favorite local-girls-made-good—is refreshingly candid in her interview with Humberto Guida. She moved to Miami from Barranquilla 16 years ago to launch her media career, which now has earned her an Emmy nomination for the hit show Modern Family. It feels like only yesterday she was the stunning blonde Spanish-TV star turning heads in the VIP section at Liquid.
If you’re invited to our legendarily fabulous birthday bash, you’ve probably already received the invitation (or at least a save-the-date). Can you ever really identify the point at which a “great” party turns into an “epic” one? Me neither, but with the right guests, libations and aural backdrop, we all know how absolutely magical a night can be.
