Ocean Drive editor with various Miami personalities

CLOCKWISE FROM LEFT: With Julianne Hough at Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List party at the SLS Hotel South Beach; Chris Bosh, joined by Heat team members, friends, and family (and two camels!), celebrated his 29th birthday with a Moroccan-themed bash sponsored by Rémy Martin at Briza on the Bay; I spent a gorgeous day on location at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach with cover star Hannah Davis and Executive Fashion Director Samantha Yanks.

It’s been said that moving to a new home can be one of the most stress-inducing events in your life. As someone who just made the journey from New York to Miami, I’m going to have to disagree with that assessment. Moving to Miami has been a wonderful and eye-opening experience. Luckily for me, I’ve landed here, a city that is booming with opportunity, real estate, culture, philanthropy, food, and entertainment.

So I wanted to tap into that immediately. What amazed me so much about Miami was the quest for joy and happiness that so many people discover in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as a stroll through Wynwood, a sunset walk on the beach, or, shockingly, a sweat-inducing boot camp at CrossFit. Joy comes in many shapes and sizes, and to each their own in Miami. I invite you to check out our story on the history of bottle service, a fascinating practice that dominates Miami’s nightlife culture possibly more than it does any other city’s. I wanted to make sure we talked to the experts and gurus both present and past to find out what really makes this phenomenon tick.

Of course, joy can come in the form of helping others, and with our amazing profile on the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation’s AileyCamp Miami, we see that no matter who you are or where you grow up, you should and can dance. And I think you’ll agree, what’s joy without food; we’re talking to some of the hottest chefs in town, from John Kunkel to Michael Schwartz to Sam Gorenstein.

So I’m excited to present to you my first issue of Ocean Drive, proudly featuring cover star Hannah Davis, who also made a big move for her career, relocating from the Virgin Islands to New York in search of change. It’s our annual Swim Issue—who better than Hannah to showcase the hottest trends in swimwear?

What gives you joy? Whatever it is, I’m sure you’ll find it here in Miami, and I hope you’ll find it here in Ocean Drive this month and in months to come. But I invite you to tell me. As I get acclimated, I’m going to be trying many new things—from restaurants to experiences. If you see me, stop me and tell me what you love about Miami. Because Ocean Drive is a magazine for and about you and our amazing town.
