October has little and big ways of reminding me that high season has arrived: The weather’s nice enough that you can put the convertible top down, Joe’s Stone Crab reopens (finally I can sit down with my favorite chopped salad), and the Miami Heat kick off their season (repeat, baby!). Having Chris Bosh as our editor-at-large makes the Heat season even more exciting for everyone at Ocean Drive—if that’s even possible.
This October also represents a very special time in Ocean Drive’s history: It’s our first employee’s 20year anniversary with the company. Associate Publisher Susan Abrams joined when the magazine was nothing more than a good idea, and has helped build it into the longstanding luxury brand that it is today.
Our Men’s Issue is an annual event this month as well. If you know Miami, you know it’s a great place to be a guy. Our cover star, Olivier Martinez, is certainly a man of the world; he started out as a competitive boxer on the European circuit and now reaps the rewards of Hollywood, appearing most recently in this year’s Cybergeddon and The Physician, due out next year. Martinez has been spending a bit of time here, too, opening his restaurant, Villa Azur, and enjoying Miami’s charms. Stay tuned for details about our October cover party, where we’ll celebrate Olivier and a great month to come.
Events are starting to pick up as well. A few I have my eye on are the grand opening of two amazing stores: Carlo Pazolini will celebrate its new spot at Village of Merrick Park on October 16, followed by Lacoste on Lincoln Road October 18.
