As season kicks into gear and the invitations begin to roll in, most of us also look forward to adding fresh pieces to our fall wardrobe. So it’s the perfect moment for Ocean Drive’s Fall Fashion Issue, our annual look at the collections, brands and names creating a buzz from Bal Harbour to Madison Avenue. This issue runs the gamut—from cutting-edge trends to iconic designers and emerging talents. Rory Evans speaks with our cover model, Hilary Rhoda, about the 22-year-old’s transition from field hockey to runway star. We also feature interviews with fashion favorite Yigal Azrouël, who speaks with contributing editor Laurie Brookins about his current inspirations, and up-and-coming star Chris Benz, who has partnered with Miami native Ashley Melisse Abess to create a line that has everyone talking. (Both designers also discuss the perfect fall looks for any chic Miamian.) Meanwhile, fashion and accessories director Samantha Yanks puts her own spin on fall’s pervasive rock ’n’ roll trend with a well-chosen grouping of accessories from shoes to minaudières.
The issue also spotlights red-hot model Chanel Iman, who tells managing editor Tali Jaffe how she threw over her high-school classmates to attend The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala (and who wouldn’t?); Miami Heat star and man about town Dwyane Wade, who discusses his favorite designers and looks with new columnist Stephanie Sayfie Aagaard; legendary Japanese designer Issey Miyake, who unveils his ethereal new fragrance in Paris; photographer Greg Lotus, whose covers for Italian Vogue and other publications display a sophistication light-years away from his West Virginia upbringing; and the eternally flawless Carolina Herrera, who muses in “In Writing” about stylish friends and inspirational artists. And for those of you who follow fashion but are not a slave to trends, check out Miami natives Danielle Corona and Jason Salstein, the designers of the five-year-old handbag line Hunting Season, which is getting national attention for its classic style and luxe craftsmanship.
Finally, lifestyle editor Suzy Buckley meets the powerhouse nightlife team behind the new Wall nightclub at the W, and contributing editor Jose Ortiz introduces you to four of Miami’s most extraordinary It Girls, whose collective style savvy is only exceeded by their accomplishments, drive and intelligence. Read about their favorite designers and Miami shops, and then rush out to get everything you need for a sensational, glamorous and fashionable fall season. - Sarah Harrelso
