On his relationship with his ex, Lisa Bonet, with whom he has a daughter, Zoë Kravitz: “[Lisa] is like my sister now, which is actually how the relationship started. We were like brother and sister and we fell in love and it went on from there. We're extremely close. We're family. She's got two kids with her man now . . . I hang out with her man and we have fun and we play music together and we laugh. It's all one big happy family, and it's wonderful.
On how Miami has shaped his design sensibility: “Miami has a very laid back style, but you've got a lot of sophistication. You've got Art Deco, and then you've got a lot of South American and European influence, so it's a great mix of being able to be casual and comfortable, but with a good level of sophistication at the same time. It's a great way to live."
On Miami's ever-changing landscape: “Miami is America, but it doesn't quite feel like America . . . You've got people from all over the world. It's a very special place. It's just so amazing now for me to look over across the bay, where I am seeing all of the major luxury brands and galleries . . . This place, it’s still jumping, it’s still moving, it’s still becoming what it’s going to become.”
On simultaneously filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and cutting his 10th album: “I didn't sleep for about a month; I got by on one or two hours here and there. It wasn't tiresome because when you're in the zone like that it just works . . . The music was just coming out of me to the point where I'd be finished with a session and I'd say, 'Okay, that's it for tonight.' And we'd put our coats on, we'd go outside, and by the time I hit the car I had written another song.”
