Danish makeup artist Kirsten Kjær Weiss created her line for two reasons: to fill a void in the organic cosmetics market for products that deliver professional-level color payoff, and to offer designforward packaging that is as beautiful as it is practical. She succeeded on both fronts: Her line is 95 percent organic, with pigments derived from minerals, plants and flowers. The packaging— designed by creative director Marc Atlan (whose clients include Helmut Lang, Comme des Garçons and Yves Saint Laurent)—is made of an aluminum and copper alloy and is completely refillable. spacenk.com
What more do you need to know? Ten years in the making, the Nars Bento Box is a collector’s item for any beauty fanatic. Inspired by François Nars’ travels to Japan, the Bento Box contains two cups filled with highly pigmented lip color—one red (Maiko, meaning dancing girl), the other pink (Sakura, or cherry blossom)—and a lip brush. The inimitable Daphne Guinness, who fronted Nars’ fall ads, is the face of the campaign for this limited-edition set—only 1,000 are available in the US. Red-carpet mainstay Marchesa is unapologetic in its love of glamour, so it makes sense that designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig would want their first beauty collaboration to pump up the drama. The eight-piece line covers all the bases: richly colored, dual-sided lip gloss; highlighting and illuminating pens; and the star products, two chic multiuse palettes—a bold colorway selected by Chapman and a goldenbronze offering by Craig. Known for his vibrant, witty creations for entities such as Baccarat, Kartell and the Mondrian South Beach, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders collaborated with MAC on a luxe makeup collection just in time for the holidays. Inspired by Dutch Baroque painter Johannes Vermeer (Girl With a Pearl Earring), Wanders’ glossy black faceted packaging is both classic and hypermodern, and the palette is an homage to 17th-century Flemish painting.
