Wynwood Brewing Company Raises the Bar

Wynwood Brewing Company boasts creative brews like the white chocolate and oatmeal-imbued CocoChoco stout.
Beer is moving up in the world, especially now that it's often preceded by the word "craft." With independent brewers leading the trend in cities like Denver, Portland, and Brooklyn, it was only a matter of time before Miami joined the ranks. And what better place to pioneer a new "beer frontier" than Wynwood?
“We’re happy to pave the way for the rest of the breweries,” says Luis G. Brignoni, founder and one-half of the father-son team behind Wynwood Brewing Company. “We consider our craft to be an art." Such beer TLC and attention to authenticity is apparent while sipping of one of their brews, or while admiring their brewery walls—which are tagged by local street artists like Krave, Eva Ruis, and Trek. Even cooler, the brewery taps are shaped like spray cans. But the duo's connection to the neighborhood runs deeper than a love of street art; the Brignoni's are Puerto Rican, and say that the Wynwood neighborhood's Puerto Rican history makes it "feel like home."
While the concept for Wynwood Brewing Company was born several years ago, the brewery made its debut with the opening of its Tap Room during Art Basel Miami Beach. Stop by for a taste of "solid beers," as Brignoni puts it, including seasonal brews, ales, Belgians, and something you've probably never tried before: CocoChoco, an American stout made with white chocolate and coconut.
“A lot of the beers we make you aren’t likely to find anywhere else,” says Nik Mebane, a Pennsylvania native who recently joined the team as brewmaster. “[This is] a brewery that thinks outside of the box and is trying to think ahead of the game.”
