Big hair and rock ballads will be the name of the game at Adrienne Arsht Center next month. Five-time Tony Award-nominated musical Rock of Ages will open on October 9 for a six-day run at the Ziff Ballet Opera House.
For those of you who missed this year’s big screen revival of the musical, starring one Tom Cruise, Rock of Ages follows the unexpected love story between a small town girl and a hair band frontman in 1980s Los Angeles. The budding romance is set against a classic rock soundtrack of quintessential hair metal hits by Journey, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and the like. Fun fact: much of the movie version was shot right here in South Florida, regularly taking over venues like Revolution Live and Sun Life Stadium.
Tickets for Rock of Ages start at $26 and can be purchased online or at the Arsht Center box office. Make sure to keep the teased wigs and torn jeans handy—a slew of ’80s-themed afterparties are soon to be announced. 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, 305-949-6722
