Dinner Plans: The Bazaar by José Andrés

Last week, The Bazaar by José Andrés opened its doors at SLS Hotel South Beach. Positioned as the hotel’s signature restaurant, this Beverly Hills import offers a world of whimsical culinary delights in a quirky-meets-couture setting.
The James Beard award-winning chef Andrés made sure to transfer several west coast mainstays, primarily Spanish tapas and seafood dishes, but the menu at the SLS outpost is much more Miami than Beverly Hills. Cuisine from the equally Art Deco metropolis of Singapore is mashed up with Miami’s Cuban staples to birth hybrids like empanada spring rolls and Chinese bun and pork belly bites. In all there are more than 50 dishes on the menu. But the wait staff is thankfully well versed and quick to answer any questions you may have about Andrés’ cheeky methods.
Miami design fans will recognize the hand of Philippe Starck all over the two distinct dining rooms. The “Rojo” room is lively yet sleek with black, white, and red accents while the “Blanca” room recollects old Hollywood glamour with long white curtains, vintage photography, and a magnificent shell chandelier. 1701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 305-674-1701
