Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim got off to an entertaining and energetic start with a theatrical runway show by Lisa Blue at Miami Beach's The Raleigh Hotel on Thursday, July 19. The 40-look show encapsulated four distinct looks.
The show began with draped suits reminiscent of a Grecian sea goddess in white, blue, and gold hues. Dancing with the Stars alum Karina Smirnoff then led a siren set of models clad in flamenco and gypsy-inspired fashions. Smirnoff wore an off-the-shoulder top with red ruffles and a matching sarong as she danced down the catwalk. Smirnoff was followed by flamenco dancers suited in similar silhouettes and models rocking looks with combined inspiration from the iconic American rebel and Spanish bombshell.
Burke's third grouping screamed midcentury pin-up flair, flaunting sweet stripes, modestly cut one-pieces, tropical florals and nautical stripes, and screen prints. Models sported voluminous beach waves, bouffant updos, and ’50s hair-bows. The show wrapped with a ceremonious nod to the Year of the Dragon. Models paraded down the runway in suits with dragon graphics, headdresses (via Miss G. Designs), and even dragon wings.
Spotted sitting front row was Smirnoff's Dancing with the Stars co-star Brooke Burke-Charvet with husband David Charvet, as well as singer Christina Milian and Real Housewives Alexia Echevarria and Marysol Patton. Guests gathered at the hotel pool post-show for a cocktail party with passed hors d’oeuvres and Moët Ice Imperial Champagne.
