'Tis the Season for Truffles

The almighty white truffle
White truffle season got off to a shaky start thanks to Italy's unusual September weather conditions. Since white truffles cannot be cultivated, the country's higher-than-average temperatures and lack of rain are adding another level of complexity to the in-demand luxury commodity. Despite these overseas setbacks, Miamians can still get their fill of the pungent mushroom. Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach is serving up two decadent truffled dishes: agnolotti dal plin with lamb and minted bread crumbs ($90); and tagliolini with melted cherry tomatoes and Parmigiano ($90). Diners may also order supplemental shavings on any dish for $75. 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 305-674-4660
