Dive into the Design Details Behind Uber-Anticipated Development 2000 Ocean

By Nicole Schubert | November 11, 2019 | Home & Real Estate

A sprawling oasis seamlessly combining the powerful philosophies of elevation and connectivity. 2000 Ocean by KAR Properties, an elegant structure off the shores of Hallandale Beach, is a panoramic tower embodying the natural and vertical worlds through the lens of a 64-boutique oceanfront escape.

2000 Ocean

Developed by Shahab Karmely of KAR Properties in partnership with Enrique Norten of TEN Arquitectos—with concept design by Kobi Karp, landscape architecture by Sasaki and interior design by Minotti—2000 Ocean is a global symphony of best-in-class design professionals setting a new precedent in hybrid living and understated elegance.

"2000 Ocean is the first beachfront development we’ve done," says Shahab Karmely of KAR Properties. "We placed an emphasis on fewer units, all of which provide the space of a home with generous private and public outdoor spaces, outdoor living terraces to the east and the west, spa facilities and two swimming areas, while delivering a full range of amenities. Our residences each have their own private elevator landing, incredible views and spacious floorplans."

Emphasizing the trend of "natural modernism," KAR Properties combined visionary design, extraordinary finishes and outstanding amenities with the extensive creation of natural spaces to channel "modernism with a soul." In effect, a 38-story monochromatic structure is grounded by warm natural elements including water, sand, vegetation, light, sun and sky.

"Where else can you have the expansive horizon line of the Atlantic Ocean and at the same moment be connected to this lush elevated landscape?" asks Enrique Norten of TEN Arquitectos. "From the ground plane to the integrated vertical environments, 2000 Ocean has given us the rare opportunity to explore moments of connectivity with nature. The landscape connects water with water, water with land, and allows for moments with views from inside out, and from the outside in."

Slated for completion by spring 2021, 2000 Ocean will allow residents the rare opportunity to connect with the environment through elevated living. Coastal carpets, turquoise waters and uninterrupted horizons will be drawn throughout the site, relating back to its unique location by the sea and reflecting on the abundance of native flora and local urban character.

"The teams worked closely together to ensure that the coastal character of the landscape design integrates throughout the spaces of the building," says Philip Dugdale, Senior Associate, Landscape Architect, Project Manager, Designer of Sasaki. "Elegant limestone-colored paving flows seamlessly from the west pool through the central gardens, extending through to the ocean dunes. Positioned along the carpet are a series of outdoor rooms, each with their own distinct character to reflect the ever changing vistas. Conceptually, the palette and character of the rooms borrow from nature as well, reflecting the cool aqua tones of the day transitioning into the warmer tones during sunset when these spaces come alive."

Commentating on the relationship between landscape, nature and people, a canopy of balmy tropical drama will begin in the entryway of the driveway, framed by a score of four Southern Live Oak trees placed symmetrically at the edges of a paved open plaza. "These towering trees appear to act as living guards, the peaceful protectors of a modern sanctuary," notes Dugdale.

Beyond lush foliage, residents will be welcomed by a grand "living wall" hedge consisting of evergreen Podocarpus plants and flowering purple bougainvillea. On the upper terrace, azure pools, native silver buttonwood trees, low-growing Bismarck palm trees and aloe agave plants will enhance the striking spirit of the landscape, with 2000 Ocean’s contemporary glass structure tempered by stones selected for their warmth, luminosity and natural state.

"The stones for 2000 Ocean where meticulously selected," said Norten. "Juxtaposing this palate of simple natural materials with glass gives the opportunity for transparency and light, providing both a direct connection and protection from the natural elements."

Also noteworthy about 2000 Ocean’s aesthetic is Minotti and minotticucine’s collaborative interior design efforts, marking the Italian design brand’s first residential project in the United States.

2000 Ocean

"We found, with 2000 Ocean, a wonderful opportunity to offer our international customers, both current and potential, our vision of contemporary lifestyle featuring the timeless designs of our indoor and outdoor collections, within this architectural context," said Alessandro Minotti, General Manager of Minotti. "Our mission has always been to express the 'Made in Italy' concept, and the highest quality of our lifestyle solutions at the highest levels, so this is the attitude we applied to this project."

With high-level interior furnishings featuring precise attention to detail and carefully selected materials, Minotti achieved refined simplicity, sensuous luxury and harmonious transitions throughout the indoor and open-air living spaces. Impeccably-crafted kitchens and serene stone bathrooms, presented by minotticucine, will offer two delicately distinct palettes and the brand’s signature stonework. Dornbracht and Duravit fixtures and accessories will also complement the spaces.

"Each customer will have the freedom to select something uniquely personal from a wide range of options and materials to create exceptional and authentic homes," says Minotti. 2000 S. Ocean Drive, 754.209.0405
