Roche Bobois challenged Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos to reinterpret the Mah Jong sofa.

From the Venice Biennale to the Palace of Versailles, contemporary artist Joana Vasconcelos has exhibited works that aim to place familiar objects in new contexts. (In her “Full Steam Ahead” series, she used steam irons to create fountains; “J’Adore Miss Dior” turns perfume flasks into lamps to make a huge bow.) Her newest endeavor gives a fresh look to six of Roche Bobois’ most famous pieces for a collection called A Arte de Viver. The one-of-a-kind designs will be auctioned to benefit the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation.
