Mr. Kream Wynwood serves up decadent and over-the-top treats inspired by music icons with a side of live beats.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with scoops inspired by famous hip-hop artists.
Celebrity sightings are somewhat common in the Magic City. But at Miami’s first-ever official ice cream lounge Mr. Kream Wynwood, they’re guaranteed.
The popular ice cream shop located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District is the brainchild of resident DJs Ari Kalimi, known as DJ Affect, and DJ Jimbo Slice. The deejaying duo combined their passion for music and the arts with their love for frozen treats to create the ultimate dessert destination. Think heaping scoops named after music legends, like the A$AP Rocky Road, 24K Magic (named after the Bruno Mars smash hit) and the Fat Joe Pistachio. And on any given night, you may be sampling flavors alongside the “All the Way Up” rapper. “We’ve had Fat Joe stop by the shop,” says Kalimi. Other chart-topping visitors have included Fabolous, Busta Rhymes and DJ Carnage. “We made Carnage a birthday cake milkshake, and he said it was the best he’s ever had!”
In addition to indulging in unique flavors next to superstars, you can choose from larger-than-life ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats, Nutella espresso shots, and yes, even cold brews. “There’s something for everyone,” says Kalimi. Want to make your ice cream picture perfect for the ’gram? Mr. Kream offers edible spray paint, so you can decorate your dessert just like a Miami graffiti artist. “This isn’t your traditional ice cream parlor,” says Kalimi. “It’s an experience.”
But perhaps it’s Mr. Kream’s philanthropic attitude that makes the ice cream shop a true standout. “My nonprofit organization is called the Kream Foundation, which stands for Kids who Rule Everything Around Me,” explains Kalimi. “That’s where the name for the shop originated. And the organization was inspired by MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, a show where a celebrity’s kid would have this crazy party, but we created the opposite,” he says. “We find a child that comes from a low-income family, and we want to be able to give them an experience that they’ve never had. So, at Mr. Kream, that’s what we aim to do.” The shop added giant Uno and Jenga games and installed an original Pac-Man machine and a DJ booth to promote the next generation of young Miami DJs. “We thought, let’s give guys who don’t have experience playing out at clubs an opportunity to perform. Within weeks, we had a lineup of DJs coming in and collaborating with veteran Miami DJs,” he says. “People really dig it.”
Already a die-hard Mr. Kream fan? You’re in luck. Next month, the store will be expanding to a larger Wynwood location in order to accommodate more customers and space for private parties. But you can still get your 2 Live Blue (named after 2 Live Crew) flavor fix while the shop switches locations. “There will be a few transitions, but we’re not closing down at any point.”
So whether you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth while jamming out to live beats or kick back with friends while mingling with some of your favorite A-list artists, Mr. Kream is certainly the Miami hot spot to eat, see and be seen. 2400 N. Miami Ave., Miami, 786.659.4541, mrkreamwynwood.com
