Anine Bing and Aviator Nation have arrived in the Magic City.
The Anine Bing x Terry O'Neil collection.
Describe the Anine Bing aesthetic.
I would say a mix of minimalism that comes from my Scandinavian roots and that L.A. cool-girl street style.
What inspired you to start the collection?
I always dreamed of launching a modern-day luxury fashion house. I wanted to create a wardrobe for the modern woman that felt approachable, effortless and not overcomplicated.
Your business model is very unique. Tell us about it.
I knew that I needed to keep the consumer engaged, which is why I decided to focus on the ‘see now, buy now’ model, which at the time was breaking new ground in the fashion industry. We launch new pieces every week.

How has Los Angeles influenced your style?
The women in Los Angeles have that cool model-off-duty look that I love. There are so many amazing creative people here doing great things, it keeps me motivated.
Who are some of your muses?
Vintage images of Brigitte Bardot have been on my mood board since day one.
What Anine Bing staples does every Miami woman need in her closet?
A stylish pair of our sunglasses, the classic white Mika shirt and a leather jacket for those chilly Miami nights

Describe your take on Cali style.
The basic principle behind Cali style is to look awesome without looking like you tried too hard to look awesome.
Love the retro vibes of Aviator Nation. Who are some of your references?
Aviator Nation looks retro for a very specific reason: We cut and sew each piece of appliqué, tags and various parts of the garment entirely by hand. We also do a lot of our dyeing by hand. All of these details give the garment a look which is reminiscent of days past when people actually made their own clothing. (Back in the ’60s and ’70s people made their own clothes a lot.) The big difference between Aviator Nation and other brands that are trying to look retro is that we actually make the clothes by hand.

How do you put together a collection?
I literally just wake up with these wild ideas for color combinations and graphics and I sit down to my notebook and sketch them up. I also love shopping vintage furniture, skateboards, old surfboards...
Why do Miamians need a little Cali style in their lives?
I think Miamians have great vibes already. It’s all about standing out and so is Aviator Nation. Who wants to blend in? Not me.
