This is your second time collaborating with Bimba Y Lola. How did the collaboration come about?
The Bimba Y Lola family and Palomo Spain have known and respected each other for a long time. Last year, we finally decided to launch the first collection; the synergy was perfect, and the results were so successful that we couldn’t stop there.
What was the design process like?
I first started designing for the Bimba Y Lola collaboration because we knew we wanted to do a see-now-buy-now collection. It was somewhat of a continuation from my last collection, Cruising in the Rose Garden, where I looked at menswear through a more sensible eye and womenswear through a vision of empowerment, exploring the idea of a woman who is powerful, sexy and lustful. So that was the jumping-off point for me, seeing what role Bimba Y Palomo would play, and then the accessories would tie it all in.

Do you have a favorite piece or look from the collection?
I love all the leather pieces, especially the jackets, which are a dream! The level of detail, the quality of the leather and the fit—everything turned out incredible.
Your designs feature a beautiful balance of romanticism and sensuality and explore themes of gender and sexuality. Where does the inspiration for this come from?
A lot of the inspiration comes from within. There’s always the side you show people, your good side, the romantic, the ethereal, a sensitive way to explore sensuality with whites and delicates, but I also like to explore the dark side, what we hide, an idea of a secret double life we all have.
Where do fashion and art intersect?
We never know if fashion is art or if art is fashion. They share similarities, both looking for creation and absolute beauty, but they differentiate by fashion being functional and momentary, while art has an eternal value.

So far, what has been the most unforgettable moment in your career?
One of the most beautiful moments in my career was when I made the costumes for the New York City Ballet’s fashion gala, and there was an overwhelming response. I heard the audience gasp and cheer as curtains went up, revealing the costumes before the dancers began to perform. Beyoncé, Solange and Sarah Jessica Parker were about two seats away from me, and I just sat there with tears falling from my eyes, thinking about how life can sometimes give you such beautiful moments.
