When Wynwood Walls launched in 2009, the project ushered in a new era of art to Miami, becoming the largest outdoor mural exhibit in the world. The brainchild of Goldman Properties, Wynwood Walls celebrates street artists from around the world.
Goldman Properties CEO Jessica Goldman Srebnick carries on her family’s legacy and passion for the arts through a number of art-related projects. Here, she shares her Art Basel tips.
Favorite thing about Art Basel Miami Beach?
JESSICA GOLDMAN SREBNICK: My favorite thing about Basel is knowing that this is the week when the world shines its bright light on our city to explore and appreciate all of the creative, game-changing things we are doing in Miami. It is an opportunity for locals to be immersed in world-class art and for artists to feel the deep appreciation that their work is valued as a critical component of our global social fabric.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s fair?
JGS: I am most looking forward to introducing the brand new installations at the Wynwood Walls. We hand-picked nine accomplished artists from around the world (Kobra, Vhils, A Shop Crew, Ron English, JonOne, Kamakatsu Matsuyama, Deih, Queen Andrea and Martin Whatson) and the murals continue to push the envelope, setting the example of what is possible when it comes to creative execution. It is very rewarding to see hundreds of thousands of people, this week alone, find joy in our work.
Hottest party to attend?
JGS: I’m most excited for our private Artist Dinner and VIP Party on Tuesday, December 4. Every year we take a moment to celebrate the family of artists that have contributed to the success of the Wynwood Walls. The greatest street artists in the world all together at one event, and it is always epic. We are also celebrating the 50-year anniversary of Goldman Properties that night. Lots to be thankful for. And, we have officially opened the Wynwood Garage at 3rd Ave and 26th Street, so parking this week in Wynwood should not be an issue!
JGS: There’s no time to hang out this week! The week will be action-packed with events, meeting with artists, seeing friends and giving special tours to people visiting from all over the globe. I will be spending most of my time at the Wynwood Walls and also making sure to go to Art Basel, Art Miami, Scope, gallery openings, dinner parties, artist talks and the list goes on. I wish Art Week was 2 weeks. There is never enough time to do everything I want to do!
Style tips for Art Basel?
JGS: Call master stylist Elysze Held! Be yourself, wear comfortable shoes, don’t be afraid of color! Be bold. One of the best parts of Art Basel is seeing all the creative fashion that flood our sidewalks. Anything goes.
How will you unwind after Art Basel?
JGS: Relaxing at home with my husband and sons is my most favorite thing in the world. Give me my most comfortable blanket, my coziest socks, and I will take to the bed with a big deep breath and an even bigger smile. I know that I will finish the week being exceptionally proud of our Goldman Properties and Goldman Global Arts team knowing we did our absolute best this week!
