Miami Swim Week 2022 officially returned for the hottest week on Miami Beach, and it truly was bigger and better than before, featuring events going all week long. The celebration of designers added life to the Miami Beach fashion community with high-energy runway shows, parties, exclusive brunches, activations and public pop-up events for the first time ever.
The weekend showcased models hitting the runway in the most desired and new resortwear and swim collections from the most sought-after swimwear designers. We have rounded up some of the best and most memorable moments of the weekend.
Ocean Drive Swim Week July/ August Issue Party
Ocean Drive Magazine kicked off Swim Week at the Kimpton Surfcomber with a steller party featuring the July/ August cover star, Charly Jordan, DJing the night away. The event had informal modeling featuring Thrifts + Threads and was a great way to kick off the weekend. Additional sponsors included Miami Cocktail, Milagro Tequila, RESET IV and BODYARMOR.
Sports Illustrated at PARAISO
Sports Illustrated is iconic, and its Miami Swim Week show is one of the year’s most highly anticipated events. This past week’s show did not disappoint with several viral moments. Mother and daughter Denise Austin and Katie Austin proudly walked the runway together. Shannon Burton, a 50-year-old finalist for this year’s Swim Search, also strutted the runway this past week. The McGrady sisters, Hunter and Michaela, also graced the runway. But one highlight that stood out among others was Nicole Williams English’s pregnancy announcement with her husband, Larry English.
Camilla
The namesake swim and resortwear label by Camilla Franks showcased a stunning presentation at Faena Forum of her latest collection including beach-chic looks for both men and women in her signature colorful and exotic prints and fabrics. “It was a time of reflection for me,” said Franks on the collection. “I’m always inspired by my travels, nature and animals. I had to look within myself during the lockdown when there was no travel to find what speaks to me, and that is reflected in this collection.” Model Tyson Beckford closed out the show with Franks along with a stunning group of models that spanned everyone from babies and toddlers to moms-to-be. Afterward, the group hosted a star-studded fete to celebrate the presentation.
JMP The Label
The newly Miami-based breakout star and cast favorite of MTV’s Siesta Key, Juliette Porter, debuted her’s and industry veteran Jaymi Washburn’s swimwear and apparel line JMP The Label at PARAISO. The “Into The Jungle” collection featured bright prints, colors, and crochet-style suits. Styled by Emmy award-winning costume and wardrobe stylist Rebecca Weinberg, the show opened with the reigning Miss USA, Elle Smith. Also walking in the show was Juliette’s castmate, Kelsey Owens.
Swim Shows at the SLS
Miami Swim Week is always an international event but shows at the SLS this year featured lines from all over the world. Some lines include Daze Dayz from South Korean and Milan-based Bikinilista, featuring swim suites embellished with Swarovski crystals. One of the highlights was the Little Lighthouse Foundation and Metaverse’s partnership to present a Miami Swim Week Runway Show with Ema Savahl. A silent auction benefited the Miami-based charity and the night showcased a lineup of stunning resort looks.
VDM The Label
The Australian swimwear brand’s collection, inspired by the Amalfi Coast, featured an extreme take on the micro bikini trend. The collection featured an array of bright colors and floral prints. One standout moment of the show was when amputee model Marsha Elle graced the runway, showcasing body inclusivity at Miami Swim Week.
Cupshe
The 42-piece runway show featured designs from two separate collaborations, one with Jojo Fletcher and another with Tabria Majors. Hayley Hasselhoff, the daughter of David Hasselhoff, strutted down the runway of the size-inclusive collaboration with Tabria Majors and was released days before in a Lincoln Road pop-up shop.
Just Bee Queen
Swim Week is more than runways and swimsuits. For their Swim Week debut, the mother-daughter duo behind Just Bee Queen showcased their most recent line of high-end resortwear at the 1 Beach Club. The beautiful and simplistic line features unique and elegant designs showcased beautifully at the 1 South Beach. The company aims to be zero-waste and sustainable and embodies the mother and daughter Hispanic heritage.
