The sumptuous spread known as Nutella was first born in Italy out of necessity, after World War II rationing caused a shortage of cocoa. Desperate times call for desperate measures, hence, the rise of the chocolate and hazelnut mixture that we now call a household favorite. Michele Ferrero, the ingenious creator of the Nutella brand, went on to become the richest man in Italy.
Here in Miami, we treat Nutella like the main character it is, as seen in these eight delectable dishes that will send you on the ultimate sugar high.
All of the pastries and baked goods at this Italian café are artfully displayed behind glass windows, but one particular item catches our eye, and it’s the Nutella croissant. The dough is perfectly flaky with a lemon twist and, of course, overflowing with Nutella.
Lucali’s casual sister restaurant in Brickell knows how to fire up a mean Brooklyn-style pie, so it’s only natural the one topped with Nutella would be an equal hit. This Nutella pizza is topped with honey ricotta and mint for a refined flavor that is pure delight to the taste buds.
The beloved pizza joint Mister O1 has taken over Miami— and pretty much all of South Florida—and we have to believe this is in large part due to the work of art that is their Nutella Pizza. The dough is crispy yet delicate, lathered in creamy Nutella with a pristine dusting of powdered sugar. Yes, please.
This vivacious Italian eatery is situated in people-watching heaven, otherwise known as Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road, and there’s always live music to be had. Segafredo’s Crepes Nutella dish must be consumed, which we recommend pairing with their Marocchino espresso—a coffee drink mixed with a hazelnut spread.
Fireman Derek’s in Wynwood and Coconut Grove is the answer to all of your sweet-tooth cravings, with their Nutella pie being the supreme choice for a chocolate-y fix. As if a Nutella base isn’t enough, the pie is encrusted with Oreo cookies and topped with pirouline cookies for an added crunch.
A La Folie on Española Way is a charming French café that specializes in an assortment of crepe dishes. There’s a separate salty and sweet menu, although you know we’re going to tell you to skip straight to the latter for the Stendhalienne crepe, which is filled with Nutella and topped with strawberries.
This all-day French café in Downtown is an homage to Paris and serves a winning Stuffed Nutella French Toast with caramelized and fresh bananas. The best part is being able to order it at 5 p.m. on a Saturday, after a day consisting of lounging in bed.
It comes as no surprise that the luxury fine-dining brand resembling the French Riviera is home to a decadent dessert—Chouquettes Gianduja. Gianduja is the more refined version of Nutella, with a richer, nuttier flavor. Combine that with a pastry puff sprinkled with pearl sugar and toasted hazelnuts, and you have yourself quite the treat.
