Jesse Bongiovi recently launched a new rose to fall in love with. Aptly named Hampton Water, the new wine is the brainchild of Jesse, his music icon father, Jon and acclaimed French winemaker, Gérard Bertrand. Joining forces to launch this premium rosé, we sat down with Jesse to hear about what inspired the team’s new venture, their father-son memories and favorite Miami moments.

Tell us about Hampton Water! What inspired you?
JESSE BONGIOVI: We created Hampton Water to share the Hamptons and its lifestyle with the world. The Hamptons has always been special for me—it’s where my family goes to slow down from our busy lives and just spend time together. We call it the exhale. It’s a place that evokes a sense of home, good fun and the best memories with the people you love most. We wanted to make a bottle that embodied those feelings, thus Hampton Water!

What gave you the idea to partner with your father and acclaimed French winemaker, Gérard Bertrand, to make this wine?
JB: We’ve always been rosé drinkers and knew that it was the kind of beverage you could enjoy anytime, anywhere. It really started with a great name and a great label and took off from there. We did our research tasting different rosés and blends from all over the world. Once we met with Gerard it was a no-brainer.

Tell us about the name, Hampton Water.
JB: Well, the joke is that rosé is the water of the Hamptons. One night my dad and I were enjoying some together, and I referred to it as Hampton water. That’s when the light bulb went off. He challenged me to come up with a business plan and the rest is history.

How did you design the bottle?
JB: The bottle design was very important to us. We wanted something that would stand out. The punt was made to look like a strawberry which is one of the strongest tasting notes you get. The glass stopper was also important to us because it doesn’t require a wine key, so you can take it to enjoy at the beach or the pool. The label was designed to be an invitation to everyone picking up a bottle. It starts “dearest friend.” It’s something I wrote to welcome people to the bottle and to share in the experience that is Hampton Water.

How did you first connect with Gérard Bertrand?
JB: We knew his wines first and loved them. It was a family friend who suggested that we partner with him. When my dad and I first met with Gérard we told him that we wanted our bottle to share the lifestyle of a place that we loved. It was in that moment we all knew this was a perfect fit.

What is your vision for this wine? What is the process for creating it?
JB: Creating Hampton Water was a long process. It took almost two years, but we wanted to make sure everything was perfect before sharing it with the world. I want them to be reminded of good memories while sipping Hampton Water, and to create new ones.

Tell us about the characteristics of the wine.
JB: It’s light and fruity, but not sweet. We wanted something that could be enjoyed all day because when we’re out in the Hamptons, or on vacation, that’s what we do! Hampton Water is exactly that.

You recently launched Hampton Water, in Miami at Villa Casa Casuarina. Why Miami?
JB: We wanted to capitalize on the Miami Food and Wine Festival that was going on during that weekend because we knew it would be a great way to get the word out. We also knew that Casa Casuarina would be a great fit because it’s such a beautiful and iconic location.

What's your favorite memory in Miami as a child?
JB: My favorite memory in Miami has to be our launch party at the Versace Mansion. It was such a proud moment to see all of our hard work come to fruition. It was truly amazing sharing our wine, and our excitement about it with everyone. That’s a feeling and memory I’ll never forget.

Where will Miami locals be able to find, Hampton Water?
JB: It’s coming soon! Stay tuned!

What's next for you?
JBJ: Our biggest plan is to change the narrative around rosé. People tend to only drink rosé in the summer, or stigmatize it as a summer drink only. In our house we drink it all year round—it’s easy to enjoy and easy to pair unlike so many white and reds. We also want to share the fun and happiness that comes from enjoying a great bottle of wine with those you love!
