Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten (@chefjgv) sets his sights on Miami in a bold, new way as he introduces his first branded residential building, Miami Tropic Residences (@miamitropicresidences) with Terra. We chat with him to learn more about his latest venture, his passion for design and his big plans for the city.

Tell us about Jean-Georges Miami Tropic Residences. What prompted you to partner on a residential building?

If I weren’t a chef, I’d be an interior designer or architect, a passion that’s grown over the years. We’ve worked with top designers like Yabu Pushelberg and Richard Meier. Now, we’re collaborating with Arquitectonica and Yabu Pushelberg for Miami Tropic Residences. After 50 years in the culinary world, I’m expanding into hospitality, starting with Chez Margaux, a private club in New York. Miami Tropic combines my love for food and design in creating unique lifestyle spaces.

What do you feel it brings to the market that’s unique?

Miami Tropic is for tastemakers, created by tastemakers. Brickell embraces and welcomes creativity, new ideas and modernism. It’s a vibrant and walkable area with so much life and art. Miami Tropic will introduce a new type of living, one that is chic, elegant, relaxed, delicious and tasteful—from the design to the food to the lifestyle and beyond.

From a culinary perspective, what will be some of the highlights?

We will introduce and educate the residents of Miami on the importance of quality—from ingredients to materials, quality of life and beyond. We will introduce our new ‘baby’, ABC Kitchens, to Miami—a blend of three cuisines under one roof. Miami will be one of the first places to experience and taste ABC Kitchens, a piggyback off of our beloved restaurants in NYC.
