Christie’s has long been a leader in timepiece auctions, and this season’s forthcoming Dubai Edit collection is a bidding block that can’t be missed.
From Oct. 13 to 27, the Watches Online: The Dubai Edit auction will offer collectors old and new a chance to grab some rare show-stoppers. It’s Christie’s third such affair, following a highly-successful online auction in December of 2020 and another in spring of this year.
“The concept is going from strength to strength as the total estimate for this third online edition well exceeds that set for the previous one in Spring 2021,” Remy Julia, the Head of Watches Online in the Middle East, India and Africa, is quoted in a press release. Indeed, the estimated value of this season’s collection stands at a total of $9.4 million, up nearly one million from spring’s lot.
Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa UAE Edition
“The gamut runs from extremely complex to extremely rare, from iconic to legendary, from classic to contemporary,” Julia continues. “The quality and diversity of the pieces reinforces Dubai’s position as a global hub for the most desirable vintage and modern watches.”
Collectors will have 211 lots to choose from, including a Patek Philippe Ref. 5102G ‘Celestial’ in white gold. The astronomical wristwatch borrows the principle of the celestial canopy from the iconic Ref. 5002 Sky Moon Tourbillon. With an elliptical contour and glass frame, this watch retails for $200,000 to $300,000.
Rolex Ref. 6232
Also up for grabs is a rare Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa UAE Edition flyback chronograph, a timepiece of which only seven were ever manufactured. The first perpetual chronograph to be made, this particular timepiece was once owned by King Farouk of Egypt, the King of Jordan, and Henry Graves, Jr. It retails for between $350,000 and $450,000.
Collectors will also marvel at a pink gold Rolex Ref. 6232 chronograph, a watch so rare, you’re lucky to find one a year. Produced in 1958 for the French market, it is believed there are only 12 examples in circulation. Given its rarity, the Rolex Ref. 6232 chronograph retails for between $100,000 and $150,000.
Rolex Daytona Ref. 6240 “Solo”
The Watches Online: The Dubai Edit will also offer a Rolex Daytona Ref. 6240 “Solo,” a Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa UAE Edition, Richard Mille RM 055 Bubba Watson and more.
