What do Reese Witherspoon, Rita Ora and Meryl Streep have in common? They can’t get enough of Alexandre Birman’s chic shoes - and neither can we. Luckily, the celeb-adored footwear designer has opened his second boutique in Bal Harbour Shops, and it would totally make Carrie Bradshaw’s heart skip a beat.

In honor of the store opening, we chatted with Birman on how Miami inspires his designs and the "It" shoe you need in your closet, like, now. (Yes, Gisele Bündchen, Candice Swanepoel, Miranda Kerr and Witherspoon have all been spotted wearing the same pair.)

Why did you decide to bring your second store to Miami?
ALEXANDRE BIRMAN: So many reasons. First, we are very tropical brand, very feminine, very Latin. Second, Miami is a global city, and it’s an important international window for the brand.

How has Miami inspired you as a designer?
AB: I launched Schutz, my first brand, more than 20 years ago. Around that time, I was one of the first guests at the Delano when they were revamping South Beach, and it was such an inspiration for me.

What’s the shoe every Miami woman should own?
AB: The Clarita sandal in white Nappa leather.

How does it feel to see so many celebrities wearing your designs?
AB: Lupita Nyong'o is a real representation of how you can make a dream come true. Her background and what she did to become one of the most famous actresses in the world is such an inspiration. And having her wear our shoes at the Oscars solidified us as an international brand.

What advice would you give to aspiring designers?
AB: Create a niche and try to focus on that one thing. It can become something you are really known for. That's what we did with the Clarita sandal, and it became iconic. We always knew that we would do feminine, elegant, sexy sandals, and from there we created the brand.
