Dr. Ashley Brissette is an ophthalmologist with years of experience in eye surgery and eye-care medicine, and she’s also the founder of Daily Practice, a new brand that wants to educate and support public eye health in a way that’s both socially-responsible and just plain enjoyable.

“I would have so many patients coming in and asking me what products they should be using around the eyes, because there's a lot of dermatologists that have skincare lines and products that they recommend for your face,” she says. “I didn't really have anything that I could give to my patients that I was comfortable recommending, so I wanted to create a novel product.”

Enter Daily Practice’s first consumer product, Eye Revive, a three-in-one hydrating and anti-aging cleanser that’s designed specifically to address Zoom-induced dryness, allergy irritation, bacteria build up and more.

“We're taught from a young age to brush our teeth every night, but people don't talk about washing around the eyelids and lashes every day,” Dr. Brissette says. “People don't know that you need to do that to keep your eyes healthy. It’s part education that we need to do around what you can do for your eyes and health, but then also just being able to use nice, natural skin care products that are safe for use around the eyes.”

Dr. Brissette worked directly with lab scientists to develop a clean and safe combination of all-natural ingredients that would help brighten, hydrate and refresh the eyes themselves as well as the sensitive skin around them. She put the formula through 15 revisions, but she thinks the results are worth the struggle.

“I'm sure they hated me by the end of it, but I was like ‘this needs to be perfect,’” she laughs. “Sight is such a precious sense. It's so valuable, and you care of it. The skin around the eyes is ten times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. You need to be very gentle there. You need to take care with the products that you're using.”

Daily Practice’s Eye Revive is a foaming cleanser that Dr. Brissette recommends using twice a day; once in the morning to refresh and brighten the eyes—and remove any sleepy eye crust, and once before bed as part of your usual makeup removal and night cream application process. Active ingredient xylitol helps to remove bacteria, while fruit and plant extracts provide all-natural moisturization.

“People want whiter eyes, brighter eyes,” she says. “This helps with that … helping you feel better and look better, but it's also preventative for your health. This is going to keep your eyes healthy and seeing well for a long time.”

Beyond helping customers reach their eye health goals, Daily Practice keeps sustainability in mind by using only post-consumer recycled materials in its packaging. The bottles are made from recycled plastic, and the packaging is made from recycled cardboard. Proceeds of the profits also go toward foundations that fight to end blindness around the world.

“I'm all self-funded right now,” she says. “We're kind of a scrappy little startup, but the goal is to get into other products that are really safe around the eyes, like an under eye cream, lash serum, and even just responsible and safe make up for around the eyes … I want to eventually develop an entire foundation, where we're providing vision-saving surgeries to people globally based on funds from selling these products.”
