Tell us about the premise of Divided by Design. How does it differ from the show you did last year, Designing Miami?
Ray Jimenez: Divided by Design is a feel-good design show highlighting our daily work while Eilyn and I compete for the same projects and clients.
Eilyn Jimenez: Divided by Design dives deep into the design world, showcasing our design process in detail. Viewers will get an intimate look at how we tackle projects from conception to completion. Compared to Designing Miami, Divided by Design focuses more on the design itself and the steps we take to bring our clients’ visions to life.
What is it like working as husband and wife on this?
RJ: Amazing, really the best thing ever. Not everyone has the opportunity to work, showcase their craft, and grow professionally on a platform like HGTV and with the love of your life—it’s a true blessing.
EJ: I am very grateful to work with my favorite person on projects that feel more like creative collaborations than work.

Does it bring challenges?
RJ: Not between us, but more so allocating the time to film while still attending our studios.
EJ: Of course, the challenge is balancing projects and studios, filming the show and maintaining a personal life can be a challenge, but we navigate it together.
What’s your favorite part?
RJ: Working with Eilyn.
EJ: The best part? Getting to do it all alongside Ray!
As a designer in Miami, what trends are you seeing in 2024?
RJ: I’m not really into following too many trends, as that can lead to design monotony. However, I personally love the use of Roman Clay in everything.
EJ: I prioritize understanding my clients’ personalities and curating timeless spaces that reflect their unique preferences. Trends come and go, but classic design endures.
How would you describe your design style in three words?
RJ: Modernly eclectic, refined and timeless
EJ: Personal, timeless and elevated
What advice would you give those who are looking to refresh their living space without doing a complete revamp?
RJ: Paint your walls, baseboards and ceiling all in one color with a nice tone and tone effect. Play around and have fun with the layout of your furniture (not everything has to be up against the walls). In doing so, think about accent chairs, pedestals for small sculptures and table and floor lamps. If you are not crazy about your floors, grab a large area rug to help tie everything in. These small changes will help give your space a dramatic change and more intriguing look.
EJ: Transformative painting: A fresh coat of paint can work wonders! Consider painting doors, baseboards, and walls in a single unifying color. Go thrifting and find pieces that have a story to tell.
