Ferrari Trento is the official toast of Formula 1. All the celebrations on the podium are made with Trentodoc sparkling wines. Trentodoc is the denomination for bottle-fermented sparkling wines created with grapes cultivated in Trentino –a province in Trentino-Alto, a northern Italian region. This denomination started from the dream of Giulio Ferrari, the founder of Ferrari Trento, and is now made up of more than 55 Trentodoc producers in the region.

The brand uses a very special Jeroboam dedicated to the podium of Formula 1. But in addition, people can enjoy Ferrari Trento wines in all the top hospitality areas and Grand Prix worldwide. In Miami, those who participate in the race weekend events can toast with Ferrari Trento at places like The Fontainebleau, Prime Italian, Sardinia Restaurant, Stiltville, Dolce Italian, Scarpetta, and many more. Ferrari Trento has also been selected as the official toast for the Emmy Awards for five consecutive years.
Each year, the brand produces four million bottles. They were awarded "Best Sparkling Wine Producer of Year" four consecutive times at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine world championships, most recently in 2021. The Lunelli family, who own and manage the business, is primarily credited with propelling the company's prominence as a symbol of modern Italian lifestyle and luxury. For the first time in over a century, Italian sparkling wine has dethroned champagne.
Matteo Lunelli, CEO and President of Ferrari Trento COURTESY OF FERRARI TRENTO
Matteo Lunelli, CEO and president of Ferrari Trento, said the partnership between his company and Formula 1 is a dream come true, finalized in 2020 after being in the talks about a global partnership since 2019. He recognized it was not an easy decision to complete amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"For us, this was a strong but very exciting move and a demanding project for our company. But we decided to embark on this project because we strongly believe in the future of Ferrari Trento and its potential. We knew that sooner or later, people would be willing to go and socialize again. And we thought that Formula 1 was the perfect fit for us," Lunelli said. "We share common values with Formula 1, which are the values of excellence, fashion, and innovation."
Lunelli said the idea of the search for excellence in every detail is at the heart of Formula 1 and Ferrari Trento. He said the organization and infrastructure behind each team are similar to how every piece of the winemaking process must be made with care and attention by a team passionate about it.
The winery will use the Miami Grand Prix to boost its market presence; they recently expanded their Limited Edition F1 collection with a specially designed bottle for Miami. It has an appealing gift box and a signature label with a Miami Grand Prix circuit graphic.

"We decided to celebrate our partnership with Formula 1 by creating a limited edition of Ferrari Trento dedicated to the iconic Grand Prix. We started with Monza, Silverstone. We made Suzuka the historical Japanese Grand Prix. Then, we thought that ending with Miami was the perfect fit because this is the most expected Grand Prix of the year. And so we thought that celebrating it with a limited edition bottle was a great idea," Lunelli said." Miami is probably one of the most sparkling cities globally because the city is about lifestyle and enjoying life, and that is a perfect fit for Ferrari Trento."
The limited-edition Miami Grand Prix bottle is excellent for those who love bubbles and collectors passionate about motorsports. Lunelli said that in a warm environment like Miami by the seaside, people enjoy light and refined foods perfectly paired with Ferrari Trento wines.
"Formula 1 is growing very strongly in the United States regarding awareness. And the passion for it is also growing. So it has been a fantastic experience because we just finished the year and are now in the second year of this partnership. We are delighted and excited to continue it. Because it's a strong platform to develop our brand internationally," Lunelli said.

Ferrari Trento has been in the U.S. market for 15 years. Before then, the Italian market was able to welcome most of the company's production, but because the demand exceeded their production, Lunelli said they thought it would be strategic to be an international brand. He said they strive to be an excellent brand present in the most important markets like Milan, New York, Tokyo, Miami, and other significant markets.
Last year, the brand had tremendous growth, according to Lunelli, and this year they expect yet another year of solid growth in the market.
"One of the things that strikes me again about this gentleman, about Giulio, is that I don't know how he did it, but he was able to think outside of the box already in the early 1900s. At the time, technology was not at the level that it is today. But he envisioned and understood the capacity and versatility of sharing in a mountain environment, said Massimiliano Giacomini, export Manager U.S., Canada, Scandinavian Markets & Russia at Ferrari Trento."
Ferrari started the wine process from the basement of his building. Giacomini said he began with six barrels, and it was a one-person show. He said the company still has some of the founder's technology at their winery. Back then Ferrari was all about quality (much like the company is today), but he wasn't too concerned about producing a certain number of bottles.
"He only wanted to do something special. Consider that in 1952 when the Lunelli family acquired the company, the overall production, if I'm not mistaken, was less than 10,000 bottles. So from 1902 to 1952, he wasn't concerned about drastically increasing its production. His main concern was that he wanted to be the best. He wanted to present something unique because nobody else had it. There was no experimentation in our region. He brought Chardonnay into Trentino. So to me, it's striking, and he sees what the Lunelli family has done ever since; he would be blown away with joy."

Lunelli said the company is proud of its commitment to sustainability. He said all their state vineyards are certified organic because they don't use pesticides, herbicides, or chemical treatments. They try to emphasize the natural fertility of the territory, and in 2017 they received the organic certification. Ferrari Trento has extended its commitment to sustainability to all its grape suppliers. Lunelli said they want excellent grapes, but they are committed to protecting the environment and the health of the people working in the vineyard.
The Brut Trentodoc is the company's landmark label, only made with Chardonnay grapes cultivated on the slope of the Trentino mountains. It is a traditional method of sparkling wine, which means that the second fermentation happens in the bottle, and then the wine ages for over two years. Lunelli said having two years of aging adds a very nice complexity to this wine, perfectly paired with aperitivo or seafood and pasta and cheeses.
This year the company turns 120th years, and Lunelli believes that in all those years, the company has grown a lot, but it always remains faithful to its founder's principles.
"What is exciting is that we want to continue planting new vineyards, have a strong growth in demand at this moment, and get new grape growers, suppliers, and larger facilities. Because that's the only way we can satisfy this demand for the future, we will always do it without compromising the quality, which means you need to grow slowly. It means that you need to make many investments in the vineyards and the winery, and this is what we are making," Lunelli said.
