Huevos Rancheros at Florida Cookery.
Previously flying under our brunch radar, Florida Cookery's downstairs terrace brunch is now served in a charming redesigned patio area. Despite the sweltering summer sun, guests are sheltered by their choice of umbrella or covered dining area, accompanied by a number of fans.
Chef Kris Wessel's midday menu is an ode to our state's blended cuisines, with whimsical add-ons and re-imagined classics, of course. Those looking for a light brunch can try the Hot Miami Housewife Salad, a mix of spicy fish tips, fennel, leek, mixed cress, and lemon quinoa. Other standouts include the Cookery Egg Sliders with tomato fondue, cheddar, barbecue-glazed pork belly, and guanabana dipping sauce, and our favorite, the Huevos Rancheros, layered with eggs, black beans, cheese, chorizo, tomato sofrito, and hollandaise. Don't forget to order a side of calabaza hash or grits.
Cookery also offers a weekly all-you-can eat special, which during a recent visit featured slow-cooked pork. For dessert, feast on house-made pastries, cookies, and cinnamon buns. And unlimited mimosas or Bellini's are also on tap for an additional $20 per person. 1545 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, 786-276-0333
