Fredrik Eklund (@fredrikeklundny) has quite the familiar face as Million Dollar Listing New York television star, but Eklund’s scope of work goes far beyond just New York, with offices in 11 cities nationwide, Miami being one of them.
The Eklund | Gomes Team, at Douglas Elliman is truly taking over. Eklund explained that coincidently, the team decided to expand outside of its New York markets just prior to the pandemic. The team has seen tremendous success in its offshoots in very sought-after markets such as South Florida, Texas and Southern California. “We wanted to capture what we call the golden triangle which goes from New York, over to LA and down to Miami,” explained Eklund.

One of Eklund’s current projects includes the Waldorf Astoria Residences Miami, which will be the tallest residential building south of Manhattan, setting sky-high records. When discussing the trajectory of both this project and the city of Miami in general, Eklund said, “We call it a new era, because it’s sort of the renaissance of Miami I feel like.”

With the exact number of sold units remaining undisclosed, Eklund touted the success of the Waldorf Astoria Residences thus far noting that it might be one of Miami’s fastest-selling buildings to date, while also expressing his extreme gratitude and credit towards the local sales team in Miami. “I am just one person of a bigger team,” he said.
The building is set to be 1,049 feet tall, featuring 360 residences and 205 hotel rooms, operated by the Waldorf Astoria, looking above and across Biscayne Bay. The project is headed by developers, PMG alongside Greybrook Realty Partners, S2 Development and Mohari Hospitality. Sieger Suarez Architects has done the architectural work for the building, with a breathtaking, unique design of nine modular cubes stacked on top of one another. They are also the concept designers, in collaboration with Carlos Ott. Additionally, the developers have partnered with interior design firm BAMO to curate the interiors of the project.
Not only will this building become a monumental moment for Miami, but a worldwide statement. “It is 100 stories and you can already see it on the skyline like how you see the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower. Whenever you’re going to see Downtown you’re going to see this building, like so much taller than all the others.”
But its height is not the only thing that plans to set the Waldorf Astoria Residences apart from the rest of Miami’s vast growing condominium development. “Nothing like this has been built and the hotel, Waldorf the brand is celebrating 90 years, and to me, it’s one of those perfect historic really old world white-glove 5-star perfection, meets new Miami," exclaimed Eklund.
And “new Miami” is a new beginning for many, worldwide. Miami is rapidly becoming an international hub and Eklund noted that while local sales are important for this project, international sales have been just as important.
One of the exciting things about the timing of this building is the rise of Miami as Eklund noted. He explained, that these buyers are purchasing units at today’s price on something that is going to rapidly evolve. “You are buying into the future of what Miami is going to become, which we all believe in” Eklund explained, “and I really feel like Miami if anything, especially this part of Miami is undervalued. Think in 10, 20 years from now, you’re buying at the best building into the future of growth.”
As he works so close with this building, we had to ask Eklund if he had a dream unit. He laughed as he said, “Well my dream would be to buy a full-floor penthouse, could you imagine!”
And as Eklund suggested, purchasers are buying into the future of Miami, and that is what Miami real estate has become. With a city growing at a rapid pace every single day, the Waldorf Astoria Residences will be both a record-setting building literally and figuratively.
This project is just the beginning for Eklund and his team as they begin to change the Miami skyline and beyond.
