Goldie Heart embarks on a solo music career with the release of her debut single, “Golden.”
For some artists, music is not a choice but a calling. Katie Welch (@imthekatie), who goes by Goldie Heart (@iamgoldieheart), is one of those artists. Growing up watching musical icons such as Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Michael and Janet Jackson and *NSYNC, Goldie knew from an early age that music wasn’t just her passion but the path forward. Cementing herself as a live performer, Goldie is now embarking on a solo career. Fusing sounds of different musical eras, including 90s pop and the allure of 2000s R&B, Goldie describes her sound as a mix of nostalgia with modern melodies. We catch up with the music legend fresh off the heels of her debut single, Golden, and chat about what comes next.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
What other people think of you is not your business, but what you feel about yourself is everything.
What was your first gig?
I’ve been performing my whole life, but the first gig that felt like, “Wow, I’m really doing this,” was when I got to perform at the HBO Golden Globes After Party.
What has been the most memorable moment in your career thus far?
Hands down, performing a private concert for Britney Spears in Las Vegas. That was the most surreal and unforgettable moment to date.
What is something you can never overinvest in?
Yourself! You are stuck with yourself for your whole life, so why not make the absolute best of it? Investing in my spiritual and emotional growth and physical well-being has allowed me to survive the entertainment business all these years.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am extremely handy. I love power tools and any DIY project. Most people perceive me as very girly, but I don’t mind getting my hands dirty.
What’s next?
I am releasing lots of new music in 2024 that I absolutely can’t wait to share with the world. Outside of releases, there are so many other exciting projects in the works, including a tour on the horizon. This is only the beginning, and I’m just getting started.
