Gucci Handbag Artisans to Visit Miami

Next week, a “Handbag Artisan Corner” will pop up at Gucci Bal Harbour from October 9 to 11, giving shoppers the opportunity to see Gucci’s most skilled leather craftsman at work—and to bag a bespoke Gucci purse.

At work in an exhibit-like display complete with sketches, mood boards, sewing machines, and other artisan tools, craftsmen will be creating four of the brand’s most iconic styles (New Bamboo, New Jackie, Soft Stirrup, and Stirrup) in a variety of exotic skins and colors. To mark the occasion, the visiting Gucci artisans will offer monogramming, and each bag will include a hand-embossed plaque with the location and date of purchase.

The Gucci handbag artisan team will also be in the house for a one-night-only cocktail party hosted by Jayne and Ashley Abess and Judy and Kara Zeder on October 10. A portion of the evening’s sales proceeds will benefit the United Way Miami-Dade.

Gucci creative director Frida Giannini selected the four iconic handbag styles to be highlighted during the three-day event. Three of the four classic designs were recently updated by Giannini: The New Bamboo, introduced in 1947, dons 140 separate pieces and takes 10 hours to craft, while the New Jackie is a remodeled version of Jackie-O’s favorite 1960s handbag and the Soft Stirrup is a deconstructed version of the 1975 equestrian-inspired Stirrup bag, which will also be on display in the Handbag Artisan Corner. 9700 Collins Ave., Miami, 305-868-6504
