This weekend, Miami Heat all-star and the NBA’s biggest coffee aficionado, Jimmy Butler, sweetened up his passion for java with an ice cream collaboration and a pop-up in Miami Design District.
What was first a tease in the 2020 NBA Bubble transformed into a bi-coastal business called Big Face Coffee (@bigfacebrand)– the result of the off-court obsession that Butler calls a “new frontier” in coffee, offering specialty beans from around the world, gear and accessories. The label, which launched at the end of 2021, shows just how serious the athlete is about his morning brew.
Revealed for the first time over the weekend, Big Face Coffee dropped a limited-edition Affogato flavor (the delectable Italian dessert typically served as vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso) in partnership with Brooklyn-based artisanal ice cream maker, Van Leeuwen. Since Friday, the frozen treat has rolled out across the country, available in all Van Leeuwen brick-and-mortars by the scoop and pint while supplies last.
The Big Face Coffee x Van Leeuwen road tour kicked off in New York City on Greenwich Street in Tribeca, followed by the opening of the Miami Design District pop-up on the northwest corner of 40th Street and NE 1st Avenue. Both locations drew overwhelming crowds of Butler fans who were eager to get a first taste of the caffeinated ice cream.
Not to worry if you missed the weekend opener– the Big Face Coffee trailer will remain open in Miami Design District through June 30 where the limited-edition flavor will be available for purchase along with Big Face merch.
