Ksubi, the iconic global streetwear and denim brand founded in Australia, has opened a new store in Miami Design District. The 2,250-square-foot Miami store is a retail destination for the denim brand, which has earned a cult reputation as a cultural player in fashion, music and art.
The brand began in Sydney and has grown into a globally recognizable and notorious streetwear brand. Ksubi has a loyal following and has collaborated with names such as Travis Scott and Kendall Jenner. It is embraced by celebrities and known for its distinctive denim. Ksubi is one of the fastest-growing denim brands in the U.S. and is carried by some of the world's most prestigious fashion retailers.
"When talking to industry friends about where to open our next store, "MIAMI!" was generally shouted back at me before I finished the sentence. This correlated well with the hundreds of DMs and requests via social for a store down here. After an hour of walking the Design District, it felt right; with its curated collections of stores, restaurants, and street art, it instantly felt like the place for Ksubi. Combined with our passion for music, culture, and good times, Miami ticks all the boxes", said Craig King, CEO of Ksubi.
King said Ksubi is looking to open several stores in gateway cities worldwide, and Miami is one of the most vibrant cities. He says that represents an excellent opportunity for the brand, adding that the city's design district has possibly the most outstanding curated offering of luxury and contemporary brands anywhere within such a tight distribution. "We wanted to be positioned amongst the best brands and fashion-focused consumers," he said.
For the Miami store's design and the upcoming Chicago store, Ksubi collaborated with renowned design firm Legard Studio. The store's design was based on creating a space that captured the brand's rebellious personality while providing a refined retail experience. Elements such as polished concrete walls and LED light ceiling installations were added to encapsulate the store's surroundings and the essence of the Design District. The space has also been designed to host a series of design and art events, starting with an artistic takeover by well-known local artist Slumpy Kev.
"Ksubi's brand identity is fresh, exciting, and youthful, and we, at Legeard Studio, are thrilled to have been selected to help elevate its presence in the United States. We chose to bring the brand's identity to life through a careful play of materials, sculptural elements, and movable pieces to tell the story of a space that embraces the vibrant culture of the Design District and Miami," said Julien Legeard, principal at Legard Studio
King said Showing up in the cities where Ksubi has locations is vital for the brand. "It's not just about being another location in the city; we want to expand the community we are a part of," he added. This month alongside the store opening, Ksubi will launch a capsule collection with local artist Slumpy Kev. "This will be the first of ongoing collaborations with locals, so we can continue to spread the word about Miami creatives to Ksubi's global audience," he continued.
Ksubi was established in 1999 and quickly became one of Australia's hottest fashion labels. The brand became known for its do-it-yourself, rebellious attitude, and now-iconic distressed denim and box cross logo. It didn't take long for the brand's signature look to catch the attention of some of the most influential people in music and fashion. The brand sells in some of the world's most prestigious stores, being Saks Fifth Avenue and Kith's number one denim brand. It is common to see lines around the block at Ksubi's New York and Los Angeles stores.
"Miami has an incredible energy, and its inhabitants love life. Ksubi has a long history celebrating music and the arts; we see this as the perfect union of city and brand," King said.
The Miami store will be the third Ksubi store to open in the U.S., with the brand having existing stores in Los Angeles and New York. Ksubi will also open new locations in Chicago in September 2022 and London in October 2022. For more information, visit the website.
"Like all our stores, we want to provide an experience. We cherish our loyal customers and want to reward them with our freshest collections, as well as beautiful space to come, hang out in and find their newest 'favorite thing'," King finalized.
