The art of floristry is a delicate skill that helps make our world a bit more beautiful. While there are many artists out there that excel in the craft, few have such a keen eye for detail as Miami-based Laimis Perez, founder and lead designer of Matty’s Floral Design (@mattysdesign). Known for her awe-inspiring arrangements that require very little guidance on the consumer end, you can find the young entrepreneur’s flowers in the homes of some of Miami’s most established residents, event tablescapes and the high-end boutiques at the posh Bal Harbour Shops.

“The most important factor I try to achieve in each of my designs is elegance, regardless of the arrangement style, color scheme or the person that will be receiving them,” notes Perez. “Elegance is the number-one priority and what I believe defines my work. When it comes to my yearly Mother’s Day collection, I’ve always tried to design something mothers won’t expect to receive in a floral arrangement. I stay away from colorful blooms and go for softer tones that would feel warm and cozy as a mother’s love toward her child.”
As someone who does not have the eye for design that Perez possesses, oftentimes I advise her to design whatever she sees best fit with little guidance, confident that whatever she delivers will exceed my expectations.

“One of my clients’ all-time favorites so far has been the Rose Gold Posh featuring my favorite rose, Quicksand, in a mirrored vase (pictured at left),” Perez says. “This design will be featured in this year’s collection as well, but with a twist in the vase. Bringing unique flowers to mothers is by far my favorite event every year and the one I look forward to the most.”
