A new food truck in the design District delivers the comfort food we need right now.
Get creative with your toppings and opt for cookies and cream loukoumades.
Hailing from our Mediterranean friends in the Southeast, loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) are the comfort food we all are needing right now. Thanks to Meli Greek Donuts, a small food truck in Miami’s Design District, we can get our hands on some of the bite-sized goodness. These tiny golden dough balls are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and go well with a variety of toppings, although classic loukoumades take simple Greek thyme honey, cinnamon and walnuts. Alexandra Karamitsios, founder of Meli’s, has a bigger connection to Greece herself. “I grew up going to Greece every summer and I have a huge sweet tooth,” she says. “I could never find my beloved loukoumades in the States, so that’s how I came up with the idea to introduce a new product to people that they wouldn’t be familiar with but grow to love!” Meli’s always uses the highest-quality ingredients, a lot that are imported straight from Greece like Greek beverages and honey. Another hint to Greek heritage adorns the side of Meli’s truck—a bee logo—an inspiration from an ancient bee stamp that dates back to 1600 B.C. when bees were considered sacred. Enjoy a sweet treat in the safe outdoor air outside Meli’s food truck and expect to find your new favorite dessert. 95 NE 40th St., Miami, 305.833.7774, miamidesigndistrict.net
