South Beach’s beloved Italian restaurant Macchialina is expanding its Miami footprint into Lilttle River with the launch of Bar Bucce, a market, pizzeria and bottle shop.
“It’s a pizzeria, bottle shop and marketplace - all rolled into one,” shares managing partner and beverage director Jacqueline Pirolo, who was recently recognized with the Michelin Sommelier Award. "It’s meant to be a space for everyone in the Little River community, whether you’re looking to host a killer dinner party or just want a place to wind down with pizza and a glass of wine after work, we’ve got you covered.”
Opening April 21, Bar Bucce, the brainchild of the acclaimed team behind Macchialina—chef Michael Pirolo, Jennifer Chaefsky and Jacqueline Pirolo offers a chic, casual Italian haven that seamlessly transitions from day to night. Set to become the heart of Little River, the 2,651-square-foot space features a lively market and kitchen with counter service. It also showcases a 120-seat garden patio and designated stations for self-serve wine service. Whether looking for artisanal coffee, imported Italian dishes and a wide selection of wines and spirits, guests can grab to-go dishes or dine in and enjoy the adorned patio.
By day, Bar Bucce offers an inviting and mouthwatering aroma of fresh-baked pizza and coffee with its coffee and lunch counter service—think traditional Italian alimentari. Guests can pop in for pizza by the slice and choose a bottle of wine to accompany their selection. By night, the market becomes a communal hot spot where guests can make food selections at the counter. With Italian staples like baked ziti, eggplant parmigiana, insalata di mare, fried-to-order chicken cutlets fried to order and Neapolitan specialty crispy fried zucchini chips tossed in vinegar and fresh mint, each dish offers a comforting and unmistakably authentic delight. Again, guests are invited to select among the curated wine selections and enjoy the evening.
At the heart, though, is the pizza. Influenced by his youth’s NYC and Roman-style pizzas, chef Michael Pirolo’s passion-driven project serves thin, crispy pies made with decades-perfected dough that begins with a poolish starter and ferments for 72 hours. With each bite delivering a pilgrimage-worthy experience, it is recommended that diners call ahead in hopes of securing a pie.
Bucce, the Italian word for peels, skins or rinds, is not just the namesake for the new Miami spot but also plays a crucial element in the wine-making process. With “bucce” strung around the market, Bar Bucce is a vintage haven inspired by 1960s Italian architecture, incorporating soft blues and vintage creams, bespoke woodwork and stunning rafters.
The bottle shop, which contains over 100 wine selections, offers approachable bottles, rare finds, under-the-radar products and top favorites.
“We want to offer our guests an approachable wine and spirits experience, whether they’re looking to explore new varietals or enjoy a familiar favorite,” Pirolo notes.
