“From the pastels to the modern decor, cane furniture and overscaled palm motifs, it all was ingrained in my brain,” says designer Maggie Cruz of her Miami upbringing in the ’80s and ’90s. After sharpening her skills during the past 12 years working as an interior designer, Cruz debuted her first tropical-infused home collection, Maggie Cruz Home, at High Point Market this fall. The 11 styles range from case goods to upholstery to occasional pieces and reference the heyday of old Havana and midcentury-modern Miami with juxtapositions of brass, marble, weathered wood and that beloved cane. “What I have learned through my experience is [that] these elements resonate with many people today, and make them feel comfortable and authentically nostalgic,” she says. “This collection’s silhouettes, textures and colors are partly inspired by that time period but executed in a more contemporary and elevated way.” $650-$7,000, maggiecruzdesign.com
