Proving that the secret recipe to delectable home cooking cuisine lies in the heart of the family, Valerie Chang, along with her brother Nando and father Fernando, opened the doors to their highly anticipated third restaurant concept in Midtown, lovingly named Maty’s in homage to the sibling chefs’ grandmother. The family is praised for their James Beard-nominated Nikkei gem Itamae and their cheekily-named fast-casual sister spot B-Side. With Maty’s, chef Val digs back into their familial roots and storied past to present the comforting yet refi ned dishes that nurtured her creativity. Menu highlights include a bright Tuna Tiradito, a succulent whole dorade with ají amarillo Beurre Blanc, and the Oxtail Saltado. The cocktail program spotlights piscobased libations like the ‘Martha’s Martini’ with orange bitters. Anchored by an open kitchen and dotted with family photos, Maty’s dining room embodies casual conviviality, as the atmosphere buzzes with vintage tunes across genres—ensuring good times and good food are shared aplenty. 3255 NE 1st Ave, Miami, @matysmiami
