Meet Alonzo Vega, The Bad Boy Of The Modern Art Scene

The thirty-five-year-old Peruvian artist has showcased his pieces in Art Basel and other major international forums, capturing the attention of connoisseurs.

For a self-taught artist who believes unburdened, unapologetic inspiration lies at the core of all great art, the world is viewed through a unique lens, and every piece aims to express emotions with a ferociousness that mere words could never achieve.

Alonzo´s life story is far from typical, he comes from a long lineage of successful economic and military leaders and while he never studied art, he did attend exclusive schools and universities in his natal country – but his calling as an artist ultimately made him drop out and choose a life of creative rebellion.

“I've been painting since I was six years old” – he expresses with a confident smile. “I believe ink is more powerful than bullets, ideas are more powerful than bullets.” – Alonzo affirms.

One of the unique characteristics of Alonzo Vega´s provocative style is the use of warfare materials such as large caliber bullets in many of his pieces. For him, this represents the ultimate triumph of art: a raw and vivid clash of ideologies that prompts the viewer to question the world as we know it.

For Alonzo, an avid marksman and lifestyle savant who often shoots machine guns, races boats and practices street skateboarding, life as an artistic outlaw of sorts has gained him notoriety around the world, with his official Instagram profile experiencing a surge in fans and followers as the artist shares more of his creative process and iconoclastic lifestyle with the digital world.
