Fashion blogger Annie Vazquez makes her film debut in Blogging: Behind the Seams.
As Fashion Week consumes New York, Miami keeps pace with the inaugural Miami Fashion Film Festival at O'Cinema. Programming for the four-day event spans documentaries, shorts, campaign videos, and even a few local filmmaker credits. "We hope to grow fashion films, in varying formats, as a theme that filmmakers in Miami can further explore," says Grace Castro, founder of Fashion Inspires More, the nonprofit behind the festival.
One highlight of the lineup is 2011 documentary God Save My Shoes, which uses commentary from designers like Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin, as well as celebs like Fergie and Dita Von Teese, to shed light on our obsession with shoes. Runway Afrique, Material Success, and Bla Bla Bla are a few of the other fashion-forward documentaries to look out for. And for some local flavor, Annie Vazquez (aka The Fashion Poet) will screen her film, Blogging: Behind the Seams, on September 14. The short film, shot and edited by filmmaker Karla Ruiz-Gomez, illustrates the life of a fashion blogger, while also shining a light on local designer talent and the Miami Marine Stadium, which recently got the vote to be restored.
