The MIAFW runway featured the latest collections from Rene by RR, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Benito Santos, Angel Sanchez, and, for the first time, Naeem Khan, and Italian luxury lifestyle brand Missoni. The events took place at venues throughout Miami, including Vizcaya Gardens & Museum, Gary Nader Art Centre, and Frost Science Museum.
Miami Fashion Week also made its metaverse debut this year, hosting its first fashion show in Decentraland and a panel discussion about the exciting activations surrounding digital fashion, sustainability, art, and culture.
The week began with a press conference on May 31, where Lourdes Fernandez-Velasco, Executive Managing Director for Miami Fashion Week, shared MIAFW's plans to enter the Metaverse with the launch of "L'ATELIER BY MIAFW." The revolutionary digital retail and educational concept will bring together fashion enthusiasts from around the world in the Metaverse to learn about sustainability, discover the latest fashion styles, and build a creative community to promote the industry.
Designer Barbara Hulanicki, Fine Art Collector Gary Nader, Megan Kaspar of the MIAFW Digital Fashion Council, and Miami politicians Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava of Miami-Dade County and Mayor Francis Suarez of Miami, among others, were in attendance.
Missoni presented a variety of contemporary and vibrant looks from its Women's Summer 2022 ready-to-wear and swimwear collections, bringing its iconic style to Miami. T-shirts were effortlessly layered on swimsuits to highlight the sinuosity and harmony of the female form, while multicolor nets created intriguing shades. Marc Anthony and RHOM Guerdy Abraira sat in the front row while iconic model Nadia Ferreira walked the runway.
Santos' distinct aesthetic wowed guests as models walked through the gallery wearing his glitzy creations. His designs demonstrated why he is one of Mexico's most coveted designers and a favorite of South American celebrities.
The architect and designer from Venezuela is regarded as one of the world's most outstanding designers and a celebrity favorite. His style at MIAFW reflected his well-known love of highly structured, contemporary, and feminine architectural forms.
Rene by RR, which debuted at Miami Fashion Week in 2018, fills a void in the luxury market with a collection that reflects his talent and quality standards and a city and culture that are gaining traction as the next international fashion capital. Guests enjoyed witnessing and being a part of René's brand evolution, which concluded with a standing ovation.
Her bold and colorful designs have helped her become one of the most well-known national and international designers. Guests enjoyed dancing and singing along to Agatha's incredible show, watching with delight as her meticulously designed pieces strutted down the catwalk, accompanied by the most stunning works of art.
MIAFW hosted a virtual fashion show in Decentraland featuring digital fashions from a collaboration between DRESSX and MTA Kollectiff. Guests were able to explore the virtual building and learn about the world of AR fashion while staying at 'L'ATELIER by MIAFFW.'
Lourdes Fernandez Velasco, Executive Director of MIAFW, closed out the week with a panel discussion on the future of digital fashion and sustainability at Seaspice. Gabriela Smith of the Upcycle Project moderated the panel, which included a conversation with Leanne Elliott Young Iodf, Founder of the Institute of Digital Fashion, Natalia Modenova, Daria Shapovalova from DressX, and Marta Corb and Derek Stinson from Ontier.
Naeem Khan's enchanting evening wear designs were showcased in a two-level runway show at the Frost Science Museum. Khan's designs were brought to life under the glow of the iconic Frost Science Museum, receiving a standing ovation at the end of Miami Fashion Week.
